I watched two french movies with Alice yesterday night. One was called Amelie and the other Love Me If You Dare. I actually watched the beginning part of Amelie before, a few weeks ago but I fell asleep 15 minutes after the film began. Hahaha... It's a very strange movie, the beginning was ultra weird and the middle was so-so weird but the end was alright. It's about this young woman named Amelie who never had any friends since she was a kid because she was such a loner. Then one day, she found an old tin box belonging to some boy decades ago. She decided to find the owner and return the box to him. If he was touched, she would become a regular do-gooder; if not, too bad. She managed to find the owner of the tin box and gave it back to him without him knowing she was the one who found it. He was very touched. So she changed and started helping others and even punishing bad people. There was a grocer who was always mean and cruel to his assistant, she didn't like the grocer at all. One day, he left his house keys in his door, she found them and duplicated another pair and went in twice to make some small changes around the house which totally confused the man when he came back. She changed the lightbulb of his lamp to a dimmer one, adjusted his clock five hours earlier, exchanged his bedroom slippers for another pair in a smaller size, changed the bathroom door knob and put salt in his port (it's a kind of liquor, for those who don't know what it is). He was so messed up by the time she was done with him, he never bullied his assistant anymore. Hahaha! Justice was served! She met her old classmate, Nino, at the train station one day, he was digging under the instant photo booth for torn up pictures. She remembered that he was always bullied by their classmates when they were in elementary school. Several days later, she saw him again, this time he was chasing after a man in red converse shoes. The man escaped in his car and Nino gave chase on his bike. However, Nino dropped a thick binded book on the road unknowingly. Amelie picked it up, saw that half the book was filled with torn up photos of strangers, carefully collected and pieced together. She found something strange in it, there were 12 photos from one same guy but the photos were taken at different times, at different train stations. Why would anyone go around the city taking photos of themselves and then throw the photo away? A few days after, Nino placed an ad in the train station, asking whoever found his book to contact him. A phone number was given. Amelie called up the number and found it was the number to a porn shop. She visited the shop but Nino wasn't there. His colleague told her to go to the amusement park to look for him. Amelie found him but did not tell him about the book. She, by help of another waitress who worked at the same diner as her, left him a message in his coat, scheduling a meeting. She played these games with him for a few times. She was falling in love with Nino, and Nino was falling in love with her too. At last, he asked that waitress to tell him about Amelie. He went to her house and knocked and called for her but she pretended she wasn't home. He left a message on a piece of paper, saying "I'll be back." After he left, a friend of hers who was living in a downstairs apartment called her and told her to go to him if she really loved him. She swiftly ran to the door, pulled it open - and there he was! She stopped and slowly pulled him into her apartment by the front of his coat. They kissed. And they got together after that. Isn't it a lovely movie? I left out the front of the movie because it was too weird... Haha.
The other movie was my favourite. Love Me If You Dare is about two young children who came from disturbed families. They played a game called "Dare" with a pretty box with a merry-go-round painted on it. At first the challenges they set for each other were small, harmless one but their dares got more and more elaborate and cruel as they grew up. Some of those dares included standing on a railway track in front of a fast-moving train, saying no to whomever they were going to marry in the church, kissing each other, not seeing each other for ten years, etc. In the end, they played their last dare by dying together in a block of cement, in doing so made their love for each other endless. Freaky ending, I know, but I like this movie! =)
